Uncertainty...

The time has come, the walrus said, to think of next year's arrangements.  I'm in a bit of a connundrum.  Conflict is hard.

It's been just over a month with JJ.  It has been the most wonderful month of my life.  True, I'm under-slept and I have schoolwork coming out my ears, but I have peace in my soul - something I've been searching for all my life.

Here's the problem: JJ finishes her coursework this semester.  Then she either goes back to New Mexico, or stays here and hopes to get into the PHD program.  We don't know where she'll be yet.

Because I don't know where she'll be, my living arrangement searches are somewhat on hold.  I had plans to be roommates with a great friend here; if I continue these plans and JJ stays here, I'm afraid I won't be the best roommate.  If JJ is gone, I'll be a fine roommate.  I have not mentioned this to said friend yet, because I'm busy avoiding outward conflict.

I don't want JJ to leave.  I can't stop myself from hoping she'll stay and trying to find ways to get her to stay (e.g., help in job searches, etc).

At the same time, I've been treading lightly with other friend, because I know that my relationship with JJ hurts said friend.  I allowed myself to get completely sucked into the "honeymoon" period of a new relationship, and as a result, I'm spending every spare minute I can with JJ.  The chance of her being an entire country away next year makes me want to memorize every minute we have together now.

And now, it is time to take up part of my spring break doing TA work.  So much for a vacation.

Grace's handsome fellow Clawdius, upon my coat.  Isn't he beautiful?

Falling to Ashes

Today is Ash Wednesday; it marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is my favorite season of the liturgical year. Lots of Catholics will have a black smudge on their foreheads in the shape of a cross today; it's the ashes of the Palms from last year's Palm Sunday. ...
