Friday,Jun 20 2008, 02:32:08 AMOther Things You Can Do To Make You Car Fit For ...

Question: What is there about summer that you need to avoid aside from the heat?

Answer: That harmful ultra-violet rays.

That question and answer above is also applicable with your car and also with you as a driver or passenger inside it. Really, what can you do to avoid this? Although, ultraviolet rays are not harmful before, it is now along with the growing and alarming problem on the earth’s ozone layer and toxic pollution that affects our atmosphere. Through the pass years, it is found out that over exposure to ultra violet rays or radiation can cause unhealthy sunburn and other type of skin cancers. Aside from the skin, it will also result to an acute and severe case of chronic adverse health effects on eyes and immune system since the human system cannot take in UVC rays as is the highest energy and said to be the most dangerous type of ultraviolet light.

In cars, these ultraviolet rays may extend damage to your car from its paint, dashboard, console and the interior upholstery that are also exposed to direct sunlight. If you don’t get any protection for your car especially on its dashboard and steering wheel, it will eventually fade or even cracked. While the steering wheel if exposed in heat for a long time may get extremely hot it can cause you hands to burn if you touch it the moment you enter your vehicle. Plus, it will be quite dangerous for your driving safety if you cant grip the steering wheel well. To avoid this, here are some tips you can do to escape the wrath and harm of the ultraviolet rays.

  1. Park in the Shade – Obviously, this is a must. If only all of the parking area out there has roof above it. Park where there is not direct hit of sunlight as much as possible or if you can. Maybe under the tress or in the side of a tall building just as long it will give your car a share above it. You should do especially if you will leave your car for more than an hour or that you will leave your pet inside your car while it is at park. There are lots of pet fatalities even children that had been left in a closed hot car so don’t leave your pet inside if you can’t find a cool parking area. When parking under at tree, watch out for mean birds up it. You can bring a plastic car cover just to make sure you car will be safe from bird’s dang and other mess like ripe or spoiled fruits that may drop from the tree. If you can find a shaded parking area, park your car in direction where the heat will point on your rear window or passenger area. This way, the driver’s area will be safe from getting very hot.
  2. Get your Windows Tinted or Get a Sunscreen Blinds for it. Either while parking your car or driving it, you will get a lot of benefits by tinting your window glass dark or putting a blinds over it. However, before you decide to get your windows tinted, be sure to know what your state’s regulation about tinting glasses on vehicles. Some states prohibit cars to be heavily tinted while other only permits it to be tinted in half. Tinted windows really deflect off the sunlight and minimize the heat and rays to pass through the glass. Window tinting will give you more convenience than a window screen or a sunscreen blind since it would be there in your windows to block the UV rays permanently although you need to have a budget for it. Aside from that, window tinting will give you more privacy and protection for your belongings stored inside your car. But, if you are in a tight budget, a window sunscreen would also be enough.
