VHS tapes to Digital for $6.95. You can get the files back on a
portable hard drive or store them with StashSpace.
I Need a dvd ripper , but one that allows me to cut the formats sizes i want .
i need freeware that allows you to centrally control computers such as
shut down, log-in, internet, etc. just like the one being used at
schools or internet cafes. just some basic functionality will do fine,
dont need any complex or advanced or special features....

I want to copy old tapes and burn them on DVD. Actually, I also need to get the tapes copied onto my computer somehow.

you are going to need a anologe to digital converter. Plextor, pinnacle
make one there are others but you have to search for them. Its a small
unit that plugs into your Video player, using the AV out. you then plug
that into the computers USB port. there is software supplied with it
and off you go.
the quality is not great but its one of the simplest ways to get the
video onto your computer. another way is to get a video card that will
also capture video, but they are much more expensive
