Sri Lanka is a green island just south of India, the capitol is Colombo. The country was at war with the Tamil group at northern side of the country.
I visited Sri Lanka in august 2008, and Colombo was under tight security by the military which was an extreme headache. My advice to you when you travel to Sri Lanka, plan your trip to explore the island from the airport. I really regret my trip to India in beginning of this year. Even though the country is beautiful and has a respected history but the dealing with people just blew everything away. The hotels in all cities even the five stars ones are poor in hygiene and lack of cleanliness. You have to be very careful when go eating in a restaurant if your stomach is not strongJ you might end up in a hospital.
