Dialectics also grapples with the unseen, material reality is the anti -thesis of thought, the unseen part of the brain.

I am now in a journey, crossroads of my life
where shall i go, i am confused, they are waitin
yesterday is the time for doubts and question

my eyes clearly saw the tears of suffering

WOMEN ARTIST IN A CULTURE OF TERROR

It is long been overdue, but I can’t shut my mind to wonder; As a woman I wonder what my role here is in our society aside from being the sex object of men and their passion (I have a friend who once asked me “if a man do something good to you, you will have sex with him in return” I was speechless, not because of his question but because of wondering, where this man came from, in 1600’s? In the world of technology saying sex is the only thing that women can do. I wonder what the feminist will say about this.). We have women who excel in their fields…. as well as women who have been persecuted by their societies. As mothers, wives and daughters, all of them assume a great role. The big contribution of women is giving half of their life to humanities.

I am a woman, a painter. In an art world dominated by men, you can count in your fingers the women in this field…… But I am not worried about being in the world of men. My mind is occupied worrying as an artist, what I can do in to society, is my art connected or am I isolated as an artist to the problem of our society, given the situation now, massive corruption, cheating and now the most pet project of our government and the friends in military, extra judicial killings... I pity mothers who lost their daughters and the sons, the wives, who is now widowed and worried how their families will be fed, the daughters and sons that have been orphaned by their mothers due to summary executions.

As a painter, I got my talent from my father. His advocacy to serve the people, this legacy he left to us, his art that serves the basic masses, From his statement “…..My art is the anguished expressions of people long denied of justice and equality”. Since my father fed us from these art works, it got into my system that now I think the same way he did now… But I am afraid and confused. Afraid of dying in hunger, because the art collectors or gallery, will not give a chance to my art work, just because I paint the realities and pains of our people. It will be bad to their fengshui or the riches who will not buy the paintings that picturing the massacre of farmers, Since they are the one who has money and landlords too. Afraid of one day, I will see myself in prison or die in the hands of a men in bonnet, riding in motorcycle, I am afraid about the future of sons and daughters of women, fear of this culture of war and terror. Confused? Yeah! as I am afraid now. My right foot is in the world of “bahala na”, I will be quiet and do nothing and watch them got killed, I am neither a labor leader nor a student, I am not a bishop or human rights worker. It will never come my way. and There is Angie Ipong and Axel Pinpin, writers and a cultural workers like me, they were captured and tortured. How sure I am now? And my left foot is in the world that “I have to do something or else, I will be next”. Yes, I am thinking about those who speak against the fascism of this government who will end up in a cemetery. They will fabricate cases to execute their targets. That’s the problem of the activists who have been killed. Even afraid they speak and express their rights and grievances, the injustice that they suffered. Killing them is killing freedom of expressions, inherent right of artists. I am a painter, an artist with no weapon in my hands that can kill, but I have my brushes and canvas, enough to awaken my viewers, to penetrate their hearts and minds, for them to see life’s realities. To hear the injustice, the struggle of basic Filipino masses against fascism. I will paint not the happy farmers picnicking under the tree, the farmers who are crying out for their lands, for the students hoping for free education, for the workers who cannot buy their foods and for the Filipinos who are squatters in their own country. For the abused women, The basic masses, i wil paint them until my viewers will understand why they are in streets protesting, why they are targeted by summary executions, why until now the Filipinos are still in chained. Yes to freedom of expressions! No to culture of terror! STOP THE EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLINGS!

I understand what are you passing. Iam so sorry for that. And person that paint ,paint the real world he or she live in. It come with her or him in the soul to paint the real world. Your country have many problem and there are some that care and other cant do or dont know what to do anything. But you have a very nice power to express what you see,It not new ,all the painter have paint their real world in some time of history. The world has to know what is the problem there.
